Our character word for the month of October is RESPECT.
In grades K-3
We have been talking about how each person is different. Each student has different qualities that are beneficial to being a good person. We have been discussing how we need to respect other peoples qualities.
In the Kindergarten classes we have been reading the book Elmer. Then coloring a sheet explaining why we are one of a kind.
In grades 1st -3rd we have been reading the book The Invisible Boy. We then discussed as a group what makes us one of a kind.
We have decided that the easiest way to show respect in the classroom is by using classroom manners and raising our hands and also keeping our hands to ourselves. Each class decided that there is no reason that we should be touching others for any reason.
In grade 4-6
We have been discussing gender and sexual harassment. Gender/Sexual harassment is: unwelcome physical or verbal things done because someone is a boy or a girl that makes that person feel uncomfortable. We took a quiz together and talked about harassment.
Please talk with your child about gender/sexual harassment.
At home to try:
Please talk with your child at home about ways that they can show respect at school, at home, and out in the community.
